The presiding deity is Shiva. == Significance == The Saivite saints, Sambandar and Arunagirinathar have sung praises of the temple. According to Hindu mythology, during ''pralaya'', Shiva carried the four Vedas in the form of nectar in a pot which was eventually destroyed.
